Cycling from the Door

Whether you're an Olympic Athlete, a Quiet Lanes Explorer or a Traffic Free Cyclepath Junky there's superb cycling on our doorstep.

Bikes can be hired locally and delivered to The Neuadd. If you bring your own then ask about our secure cycle locker.

We are keen on quiet lanes ourselves and can offer you plenty of suggestions.

Quiet Lanes and Gorgeous Views

Personally we stay clear of main roads and have worked out some really interesting rides, skirting the quiet backs streets of Abergavenny, winding through lost-in-time country lanes and visiting lakes, pubs, hidden cycle friendly cafes, and breathtaking mountain passes.

These range from a  1 hour blasts to all day tours.  After 9 years here we still return from rides marvelling at the beautiful cycling from the door.

Traffic Free Cycleways

We are right by the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal which links into a disused railway line and connects to a wider network of Sustrans routes (some of which are traffic free or virtually traffic free).

There is a good cafe at around 45mins in each direction, and that involves passing several good pubs along the way.   There are options to hop off the canal tow-path and link into some very quiet lanes to help get variety.

One of our favourite rides ends up decending a very quiet lane back to The Neuadd and the variety of interest in the ride is remarkable, culminating with a really world class panoramic unbounded single track road section.

Hill Climb on the Doorstep

If you simply can't wait for a hill climb then you can ascend almost 400m right from our entrance.  If you'd rather warm up then we have a 6Km 400m climb with a 15 minute level warm up from the door.  The climb is spectacular with switch backs and views and bit of drama.

We have a collected recommendations for other hill climbs in the area.

Big Classic Rides

If you're a cycle athlete you'll probably know the reputation of the area and have some classics lined up.

When you get back you can look forward to a relaxed environment with plenty of space to check the bike over and soak up more views.
