Cycle Ride: Hill Climb and Gorgeous Decent

If you need a work out with some strenuous pedalling but want the reward of a fantastic long decent with great views then this is the one. Allow around an hour depending on your speed up hill.

Do a few stretches before you go as the ride starts immediately with a good 850 feet / 260m climb. Turn left at bottom of our drive and go up the hill (Beaufort Road). There are some good views as you climb, but the best is yet to come. Once the road starts to level out look for a turning off on right. The hard work is done. Turn right and follow this road across the moorland and back down to Llangattock village.

From the junction at the top you will be on a quiet lane with great open views. The decent is fairly gradual and it's a nice windy lane. You will keep getting views over the Usk valley and the mountains beyond.

Once back in the village spin back up to The Neuadd.

Cycle Ride: Llangenny and Crickhowell circuit

This is a good spin to a nice pub, or a great circa one hour blast through pretty lanes and countryside.

Best to refer to a map. Down our drive and turn right by the chapel as you get into the village. Ride out to Llanelly hamlet and down to Gilwern. Straight over A4077 and via Llangrwney to Langenny.

Good pub in Llangenny. Turn left in front of the pub and see if you can make it up the 1 in 4 hill. No shame in pushing up! Follow lane to Crickhowell and the obvious route back to The Neuadd.

Cycle Ride: Llanbedr and the Secret Valley

One and half to two hours. Wonderful quiet and beautiful valley with pretty farmsteads. Option of nice pub in Llanbedr.

Down our drive and into Crickhowell. At the petrol station bear left and immediately right. Go up the long straight hill through the residential area and bear left on the lane at the top.

Refer to map and ride up the left hand side of the valley until the road loops back. Return on the other side of the valley. When you reach the Crickhowell to Forest Coal Pit road turn right and head back to Crickhowell. You can do a detour into Llanbedr and the Red Lion pub.

Incidentally, it's not called the Secret Valley.... It just feels a bit like that. We think this may be one of the locations that inspired Owen Sheers in his book Resistance.

Cycle Ride: Llantony Priory Hotel & Bar

About 15 miles each way mostly on country lanes. Llantony Hotel is set in the ruins of a 12th century abbey in steep sided Honddu Valley. On sunny days you can sit on the short grass amongst the ruins for a drink or get snug in the very atmospheric bar partly underground and with a stone vaulted ceiling. The bar is basic and timeless – on a par with The Old Dungeon Ghyll bar for those of you that also walk in the Lake District.

Cycle Ride: The Tumble

If you know about the Tumble then you are probably a serious rider. We have a Dutch team here each year and one rider did the Tumble 15 times in one day for charity !!! 400m ascent in 3 miles. The start point at Govilon is 6 miles along the Usk Valley from The Neuadd.
